Lewis Hamilton: My worst year in F1

Lewis Hamilton was absolutely pessimistic in his statements after the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The Briton, despite having managed to get into the points from 19th place, initially as 10th and then 8th, after the exclusion from the final results of the two McLarens was made official, was in a bad mood, stating to SkySports that “I feel terrible. It’s the worst season I’ve ever had and no matter how hard I try, it’s getting worse and worse. I’m trying everything, in and out of the car”.

In his following interview with the written press, Hamilton was equally gloomy, giving answers of a few words but with words that perfectly reflected his mood. For example, when asked how much satisfaction he took from finishing in the points, he said: “Zero. The most meaningless 10 places, don’t mean anything. It’s still a bad weekend.” The gloom continued, as when asked next whether there were any positives to take away from the match, he responded with a short and sharp: “No.”

Regarding the start incident caused by Gabriel Bortoleto, which allowed him to gain several positions, he only stated that “It was a fairly simple first lap, I just stayed out of trouble” while regarding Ferrari’s hopes in the battle for 2nd place in the constructors’ championship, the seven-time world champion only said that “I don’t even know how many points we have, but with my performance, we’re done”.

The negative feelings were clearly intense in Hamilton, who concluded by saying that he had had “22 bad weekends” and when asked if the post-season period offers him a chance to recover, he simply replied: “I don’t know”.

The highlight was his separate statement to BBC Sport, where after reiterating that he finds nothing positive from the race, he pointed out that “I can’t wait for it to be over, I can’t wait for it to be over. I’m not looking forward to the next one”. When asked if he meant he wasn’t looking forward to the next race in Qatar, Hamilton replied: “For next season.”
